the gift would have to be made to the Town but the deed could specify that the structure would be under the care and custody of the Commission. It may take a town meeting vote to accomplish.

Subject: [MassHistPres] receiving donations
I’d appreciate any advice that people could provide.
Have any Historical Commissions been gifted with a historical monument or building? What are the issues with accepting such a gift? Are there grants available for long-term management and upkeep? Legally, are there requirements that a Commission would need to implement?
We are being offered a windmill that was built in the late 1870s and we are trying to understand what is involved before we vote to accept.
Thanks,
