I replied to Janice off-list yesterday, but for everyone’s benefit: the federal and state government are not subject to local land use controls and bylaws such as zoning, local historic districts, or demolition delay bylaws.
This is why there are laws and regulations, at both levels, that require a review of all projects involving federal or state permitting, licensing, or funding for their impacts to historic resources. The MHC is involved in the federal review and oversees the state review. You can read more about our review of these projects here<https://www.sec.state.ma.us/mhc/mhcrevcom/revcomidx.htm>.
Thank you,
Jenn

Subject: [MassHistPres] DDB with the Federal Government
Good Day all,
We, the Newbury Historical Commission, are inquiring if anyone has property owned in their City/Town by the Federal Government. If you do, do you have a DDB? If the building is possibly going to be demolished, would the local DDB be enforced?
We are having a meeting tonight, and I thought I would try to get an answer for this question if possible.
Thank you all,
Janice Forrest
Newbury Historical Commission
