Passing along this survey from the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO). If you use the Secretary’s Standards for Rehabilitation in your preservation work – local historic district commissions, community preservation commissions, architects, etc. – please take a few minutes to review and complete the survey.
A message from the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO).
In response to the ongoing national discussion of the efficacy of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (Standards) in their present form and application, NCSHPO established a working group in March 2023 to carefully examine issues and perspectives related to the Standards and their application, and ultimately to create a summary report that identifies issues, recommendations, and case studies to be broadly shared.
The Stakeholder Subcommittee of the working group is focused on obtaining input from multiple perspectives outside of SHPOs, NPS, and related entities (the larger working group will be reaching out to those groups separately). The Subcommittee is seeking opportunities for thoughtful engagement and input from a wide variety of preservationists, professionals, and other stakeholders who use the Standards, to incorporate a broad range of experiences and perspectives.
As a first step in support of that goal, the Subcommittee has created an online stakeholder survey<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0_DCe6izPtlDOWIwGVnfhatdZ-rRb-HJod8EJyI6DiHt4ng/viewform?usp=sf_link__;!!O9h35Ks8fCsF!EhNQj_9swkzi3thA05w0GRUzwmcNCs6qy8WlDfY6KZgajJQ40a8_9_XfU05j8VtIxAsslu6AoNzBbCxOxgUD-tNd_oI$> which poses questions about how each stakeholder interacts with and perceives the Standards and their application.
We are requesting submission of responses to the survey by December 15, 2023.
