I agree that there should be a statewide approach, in fact, the initiative and funding for that should be DOT’s, or from the legislature, on the updating/restoring of these markers. The Mass History Alliance is interested in the question of how we as a state should approach these markers.
I'd like to propose we host a Conversation on the Common <https://masshistorycommons.org/public-square/conversations/> on the topic this fall and would love to get suggestions for panelists.
More information on the markers/ cpa funding for restoration can be found here https://www.communitypreservation.org/cpa-success-stories/news/tercentenary-markers-restoring-300-years-massachusetts-state-history-cpa
Michael, Martha, maybe you are interested in participating?

I'm not sure how that could be accomplished, but it would be a really interesting project. Has there been a statewide inventory of those plaques? Is there a history of the project?

I'd greatly appreciate your feedback on how your municipality is addressing these markers, including (1.) any feedback on work to build consensus with stakeholders towards a solution, and (2.) looking forward, how your community has rethought how its local history should be presented and interpreted.
