Hello Tugboat Aficioinados: Doug, Elizabeth, Jade, Dennis, plus more.. 
   I too saw both Luna and Venus in the upper Charles across from the Science museum. With Doug Randall's initiative Luna Preservation Society acquired Luna and with extraordinary fund raising Luna's hull was repaired by the Samples boatyard in Boothbay, ME.  Venus was scraped by Cashman. 
   Luna is again in need of help, in need of continued preservation and the enthusiasm of supporters to ensure her continued legacy as Boston's historic tug.

A fun story about the rescue of Tugboat Luna.  I used to live on Beacon Hill and would often pass Luna, which was then half sunk in the Charles River down by the Science Museum.  In 1993 I met my boyfriend, Doug Randall, (now husband) and he became involved with Patrick Otton and others in the salvage of the Luna.  I worked at Harvard at the time as a Project Manager, mostly on historic buildings.  I managed to convince the roofing manufacturer Sarnafill to donate materials and had a local roofing company clad the hull with Sarnafill while it was in drydock in East Boston.  (They did it all for free, Harvard was a very good client for them!)  They then floated the boat and the first night it was afloat my husband spent the night on board with all kinds of pumps.  No one was sure whether the roofing material was going to work or not!  This was at a  time when we didn't have cell phones so you can imagine I didn't get much sleep that night, not knowing what was going to happen!  Ah, the things we do to save history!    I would encourage people to help out with Tugboat Luna.
