Send me email as soon as you can ranking the projects in the order in which you would like to be assigned to them. If there's one you don't want to work on at all, leave it off your list.
(It's likely that everyone will get his or her first or second choice.)
Sign up for a project selection interview at www.cs.umb.edu/~eb/682-2007/interviewSchedule.html .
Update your resume and home page if they need updating.
Prepare two cover letters for your project selection interview. Each letter should tell me why you want to do one particular project and how you think you can help make it a success. Do this for your first two preferences.
The letters may be quite different since the projects are different. That will often be the case when you are looking for a job. You have just one resume that everyone sees, but the cover letter is particular to the job you are applying for. It's not immoral to say to two different potential employers "this is the job of my dreams because ...". (Often you tailor your resume for a particular job as well.)
At the interview you'll have a chance to talk about all the projects, but each cover letter should discuss just one you are applying for.
Come to the project selection interview promptly at the time you signed up for. You need not dress for success - but you should know that at a real job interview school clothes may not do. (That depends on what you usually wear to school. My school clothes are more informal than what I would wear to an interview, even if I knew that the company had no dress code at all.)
Bring to the interview
- Your cover letters.
- Your resume.
- The schedule form showing the times you prefer for team meetings and the times you absolutely cannot come to team meetings.
