I’d hoped to start Excel today but there wasn’t enough time to tell the students to go to the lab. So Thursday. I’ll use today to nail down weighted averages – perhaps do the homework in class.
Students did very well on the exam last week. I need to find out whether it was too easy. I think I’ll do an informal anonymous survey asking whether students are learning, how hard they are working, whether I should do harder/deeper stuff.
I worked the GGGg problem and the Alice/Bob questions in class, and dismissed early. I think I talked too much about how I hoped the course was (sometimes) fun – e.g. the GGGg problem – and about how you had to think about whether answers made sense.
Sorry not to be more informative today. I’m preoccupied by a cheating incident in my other course, and things happening in my life outside school.
On to Excel – with less preaching and more doing. I have asked them to work through the first few sections of Chapter 6 a step at a time in their own copies of Excel before class on Thursday.
