Welcome to the my Enemy Territory homepage!

I have decided, against my better judgement, to create a personal page to help me collect all my thoughts when it comes to ET, b/c the Lord knows the world needs another site for ET. Here, you will find a hopeful learning experience which will help guide you through the world of ET tweaking, with links and other things.

* Note: this site has been designed for intermediate users of Windows Operating Systems.

So why?
Over the past couple of years, I have noticed that even whilst my DSL connection had been getting faster and faster, my in-game lag had become steadily worse, completely counter-intuitive.  After years of idling in the first stage, I finally got past that river in Egypt and got pissed.  Then I cried.  Skipping past the other stages, I finally wised up.

At first, I began by tweaking my game out, mostly because I was tired of getting my butt handed to me on the battlefield.  After weeks of delving the finer points of ET, my lag barely changed.  Admittedly, being a veteran RTCW gamer (amateur tweaker), my game was already set up pretty well for performance.  Something else was amiss.

Then, my computer broke down.  Weeks turned into months as I was forced to start over again, but man, what a nice excuse to upgrade my hardware.  Newer, faster, bigger, better *insert Tim the Toolman grunt*; my problems were solved!  I put together the new hardware, I installed the operating system, I refreshed my ET, I built my excitement to a York Peppermint Pattie crescendo and... and... and... and the dream was over.  My lag barely changed.  ARGGGHHH!  What the hell Bobby?

There was only one component left.  As I began learning more and more about tweaking, I realized my problem was less about lag, and more about latency.  I moved onto my network.  I found that even though my internet speed got faster, it had become more inefficient.  Cleaning up a network, though, is more than just plugging in a new router.  It's more than just putting on a clean pair of... um... drivers, yeah...  It's more than a faster ISP.  When all was said and done, I found that the real key to tweaking my game was not just in the game.

It's everything taken together:

Though I've always known that, I never actually tweaked them together with that single focus of making my game run smoothly.  No matter how fast you get your hardware to go, no matter how much performance you can squeeze out of your game, none of it matters if you can't make it work smoothly, efficiently.  It's the basics of computing 101.  You have 1000 parts working together where if any one piece breaks down, the whole thing crashes and burns.  In the same sense, you have 4 basic components, which work together to provide the ultimate online gaming experience.  Cleanliness is next to godliness.

Now I don't have all the answers, but hopefully, it's enough to get you going in the right direction.  Hopefully, it's just enough to help.
