our town (Orleans) wrestled with this problem and with a ConsCom that had
zero interest in preservation and no understanding of the cultural
landscape. Finally after one of the condemned properties appeared on
PreservationMASS list of the 10 most endangered sites in the Commonwealth
the responsibility for all future conservation properties with historic
structures was split between the HisCom and the ConsCom, each attending to
the separate aspects pertaining to their expertise and focus.
Jim Hadley Chair Orleans HisCom.
