Historic Blackstone Valley Stagecoach Arrives in Worcester
For Thursday Afternoon Ceremonies
WORCESTER: Worcester businessman Bobby Largess and his replica 19th century
Blackstone Valley Stagecoach will continue an historic reenactment and make its
way into the City of Worcester on Thursday, October 4th.
Believed to be the first stagecoach run from Providence to Worcester in more
than 155 years, the journey highlights history, tourism and transportation
throughout the region and in particular, efforts by Mr. Largess and other
Worcester Canal District business interests to replicate the hidden Blackstone Canal
in Worcester. Largess, an experienced teamster (horseman) completes a four day
journey tomorrow by bringing the replica Blackstone Valley Stagecoach Company
team featuring two Belgian draft horses into Worcester’s Canal District and
adjacent downtown area for a series of special events on Thursday.
The Blackstone Valley Stagecoach Company and horse team will be at the
following locations to complete this historic four day journey.
Thursday, October 4th
9:30 AM - Depart from Asa Waters Mansion, Millbury
11:00 AM - Enter the Blackstone River Bikeway in Millbury at McCracken Road
1:00 PM - Ceremonies at Vernon Hill School, 211 Providence Street, Worcester
3:00 - Ceremonies at Castellana’s Restaurant, 90 Harding Street, next to the
route of the historic Blackstone Canal in Worcester. South High School Academy
of Education Service and Government will make a presentation.
An official Congressional Proclamation from Congressman Jim McGovern will be
presented.
4:00 PM - Arrival at Worcester City Hall for delivery of articles and
Citation to the City of Worcester
