[MassHistPres] Exterior House Lights

Any opinions out there as to whether any kind of exterior mounted  
light is appropriate for a 1723 restored colonial farmhouse.  I  
presently have a dome type light mounted in the center of the frieze  
of my entablature probably installed back in the 40's.  It's unique  
in the fact that the globe has turned purple due to its age and the  
ultra-violet rays to which it has been exposed.  But it has long been  
a bone of contention given that its appearance is obviously  
inconsistent with the age of the house.  The questions are: remove  
completely? or replace with something else?
