[MassHistPres] Height guidelines for historic plaques

Anne,

It really depends on the community - whether it is vehicular observations of signs or pedestrian. In our town we generally locate historic markers at the second story level or even under the eave - it also depends on architecture - gable front or gabled roof - sidewalks or rural country roads - etc etc. Fitchburg has both and so may have to have general guidelines with a case by case decision based on context.

Hope this helps.

Gretchen

Subject: [MassHistPres] Height guidelines for historic plaques

A Fitchburg organization is going to be installing plaques on some of its historic buildings, and the town is looking for information on appropriate height and placement guidelines. I have read that a height of four to six feet is standard, but any more specific guidelines would be helpful!

  Thanks,
