Joseph, an FYI that soliciting for donations on masshistpres does not meet
the guidelines for posting to this listserve. Chris.

GUIDELINES FOR POSTING MESSAGES:

Postings should relate to issues of historic preservation in Massachusetts.

When you send a message or questions to the list, include your name and
affiliation.

The subject line should clearly demonstrate the topic in the body of your
email.

Do not send any messages that include commercial advertising for services or
products.

However, if you have personal experience with a product or service under
discussion, your input is welcome.

Do not send any messages that include personal attacks.

Do not forward messages received off the listserve onto the listserve.

Do not send any messages that solicit for membership, donations, fundraising
or awards.

Do not send virus warnings or other chain mail.

Maintain professionalism and respect to everyone whether they are a member
of this list or not.

These guidelines are subject to change without notice.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in moderation of your posts or
removal from the list.

Job postings are allowed on masshistpres.

It is best to delete large threads from your posting and keep only the
previous posters thread. Messages over 40KB are held for administrative
approval and if the thread is too long your message will not be posted. If
your email is over 40KB because of an attachment, you may want to contact me
directly so that I can approve it. Due to the high amount of spammers that
try to post to the list, I do not always see the held messages that should
be allowed through.

NEWS FROM PRESERVE UMASS

The Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation has become a major financial
supporter for a project to create a new Agricultural Learning Center just
north of the UMass campus. This project will ensure that the 1894 Queen Anne
Style Horse Barn (AMH.109 on the Inventory of Historic and Archaeological
Assets of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts) will be saved from demolition.
To read about the project, follow the URL below to the November issue of the
Bureau's official newspaper:

Members of the Preserve UMass Steering Committee recently met with Dr.
Stephen Herbert, who directs UMass Extension, the Agricultural Experiment
Station and the Center for Agriculture who briefed us on the proposal for
the Learning Center. We have agreed to support this effort because it has
become clear that the campus administration will not preserve the barn at
its current location and this project will keep this structure serving an
academic agricultural purpose. The barn was constructed as a "model barn" at
Massachusetts Agricultural College. It served the program that created the
nationally known "Bay State" line of Morgan horses and, despite its current
shabby exterior appearance, retains important architectural details. An
independent engineer has informed PUMA that it is possible to move the
entire structure to a new location without dismantling it.

We urge you, if you are able, to make a contribution, of any amount, to this
project using the pledge card on page 5 of the Federation's Newsletter and
to send a letter of support and encouragement as well to the address on the
pledge card. If you cannot make a financial contribution, a letter of
support will be important in helping attract more corporate financial
donors.
