NEW DEMOLITION DELAY BYLAWS

At spring town meeting, the town of Hatfield passed a twelve month
demolition delay bylaw.

WENHAM FIRST PERIOD HOUSE DEMOLISHED

At approximately 300 years of age, the John Perkins House, circa 1710,
was demolished in May, 2011. Listed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 1990, the house was significant for its numerous
first period features. With no demolition delay bylaw in Wenham, the
house was demolished only several days after the local commission was
alerted to the possibility of its demise. As a visual demonstration of
the need for demolition delay bylaws and other local preservation tools,
here are video links to the razing of the structure.

overwhelmingly defeated at annual town meeting.
