We are working on the restoration of an 1850's schoolhouse in Wellfleet, on Cape Cod. An old postcard appears to show a tall chimney pot over a square brick chimney. We find no evidence of other, similar items here, in the Town, or in historic photos.
Does anyone know of the use of chimney pots in 19th century Massachusetts? We have seen a photo of a Concord house with multiple pots, but this is a tall, single one, similar to the neogothic ones seen on gothic revival structures. The schoolhouse is simple Greek Revival, so gothic revival is counterintuitive. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
