hi sarah.....
any person, whether a volunteer or paid contractor, can take the RRP (renovation, remodeling & painting) lead safe certificate class...i wonder if the town would allow volunteers to work if they were certified? the town could offer to pay for the certification...asbestos may be another story...

Subject: [MassHistPres] volunteers working on town-owned building
I'm wondering if there are examples of town-owned historic buildings where volunteers were used to perform restoration/renovation work. We have a building with possible asbestos and lead paint where the town has determined that no volunteers should work on the structure. Would it be reasonable to identify projects that might not impact hazardous materials and seek permission to do that work?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
