[MassHistPres] experience with Azek?

The Hingham Historic Districts Commission allows Azek and other composite materials in a limited manner for use on elements that touch the ground or are in other ways susceptible to rot, i.e. the base on a pillar, or where visibility is minimal. Use of these materials is, of course, the latest preservation battle. Contractors and architects swear by these materials. They say composite materials can be turned, routed, painted etc. so that one can't tell the difference from wood. I'm interested to hear how other commissions are handling the use of composite materials. Thanks for posing the question, Jill.

Subject: [MassHistPres] experience with Azek?
Has anyone had experience with use of Azek-cellular PVC to "replicate" architectural details on a historic building? And is such acceptable for a tax-credit project?
Any input would be most appreciated.
