DEMOLITION DELAY WORKSHOP IN PLYMOUTH
An MHC workshop on demolition delay bylaws will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 7pm in Plymouth. The workshop is primarily for local historical commission members interested in establishing a demolition delay bylaw in their community.  However, anyone interested in understanding the basics of a demolition delay bylaw is welcome to attend.  The workshop will cover the advantages of demolition delay bylaws, the different types of demolition delay bylaws found in Massachusetts, the typical steps in a demolition delay bylaw and success stories with demolition delay from around the state. SWAMPSCOTT LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT PASSES TOWN MEETING
The town of Swampscott established the community's first local historic districts at annual spring town meeting.  The largest, the Frederick Law Olmsted Local Historic District, contains well over 400 properties.  This residential subdivision, designed in the 1880s, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Two single building local historic districts were also established for the Swampscott Fish House and the Swampscott Railroad Depot.  Additionally, town meeting approved the Swampscott Cemetery Local Historic District. SINGLE BUILDING LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS PASS AT TOWN MEETING
In Northborough, the circa 1780 Peter Whitney Parsonage Single Building Historic District was approved at annual town meeting.  This is the town of Northborough's first single building local historic district.  In Wellesley, two single building local historic districts were established, the Sylvia Plath House Historic District and the Fiske House Historic District. SHEFFIELD PASSES DEMOLITION DELAY
The town of Sheffield passed a demolition delay bylaw with a delay period of twelve months.  This brings the number of cities and towns with demolition delay to 138.
