Hello Chris,

Reading Selectmen usually call in the Historical Commission for updates annually or when an issue surfaces.  They assign a member to serve as a liaison - although the volunteer  Selectmen are generally too busy to attend our meetings, they can serve as a conduit to the Bd. of Selectmen who are the appointing authority for the Commission.  The Commission writes an annual report.
Commission members also try to be visible at various meetings and keep contact with the Department head and staff and building dept..  Outreach includes local Preservation Awards that generate press coverage; participation at community events such as information booths and as vocal advocates for preservation.
