MHC WORKSHOP ON ADMINISTERING DEMOLITION DELAY BYLAWS
This workshop will discuss the strengths and limitations of demolition delay bylaws, proper administrative procedures, effectively utilizing the delay period, the necessary sections of a well-crafted bylaw/ordinance and other options to consider besides demolition delay. It will also cover best practices and success stories from around the state. March 16, 2017 at 7pm. Walpole. WORKSHOP ON FUNDING, FINANCING AND TAX CREDITS FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROJECTS
The Western Massachusetts Historical Commission Coalition is presenting a workshop on funding, financing and tax credits for historic preservation projects. Topics will include grant opportunities, local fundraising efforts, tax credits and case studies. April 5, 2017. 10am to 12pm. The workshop will take place in the Berkshires. A specific location will be determined shortly. The coalition is a collaborative effort of the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, Franklin Regional Council of Governments, Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, Preservation Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Historical Commission to provide educational opportunities for local historical commissions and other interested organizations. NANTUCKET 2017 PRESERVATION SYMPOSIUM
Nantucket Preservation Trust (NPT) announces Nantucket Island’s first Preservation Symposium: Nantucket’s Golden Age: Architecture, Interiors and Historic Landscapes. The program will include behind-the-scenes tours of private homes, gardens and public spaces in the Main Street neighborhood and in ’Sconset. Lectures by national and local architectural historians, preservationists, and museum curators will include: Paul Goldberger, a leading figure in architecture criticism and contributing editor at Vanity Fair; Peter Kenny, co-president of Classical American Homes Preservation Trust; Catherine Zipf, architectural historian at MIT and Roger Williams University; and Therese O’Malley, expert in American landscape history from the National Gallery of Art. Local speakers such as Marty Hylton and Linda Stevenson, Co-directors of the University of Florida Preservation Institute Nantucket, Betsy Tyler, author and local historian, and the NHA’s Catherine Taylor, Director of Properties, and Mike Harrison, Curator. The NPT’s three-day symposium will take place June 6-8, 2017 at various island venues and locations.
