*Field School in Building Archaeology, Newport, RI.*
June 6 - 23, 2017, Roger Williams University School of Architecture, Art
and Historic Preservation together with the Newport Restoration Foundation
will offer a *Field School in Building Archaeology.*
The intensive three-week course will be led by Myron Stachiw, with
workshops presented by Thomas Paske (17th -19th c. building technology);
Claire Dempsey (methods of documentation); John Vaughan (paint analysis);
and William Flynt (dendrochronology). Participants will learn through
lectures, hands-on workshops, field trips, and study of the c.1726 house of
Christopher Townsend, a noted 18th century cabinetmaker in Newport, the
theory and methods of building investigation, documentation, dating, and
interpretation. The course will provide three undergraduate or graduate
credits to participants. Housing is available at RWU.
