[MassHistPres] 'Up lighting'

If I might register a small dissent re uplighting — a not uncommon technique . . .

There are those who see uplighting of facades as somewhat akin to a kid shining a flashlight up under his face to make it look spooky. We expect the shadows on a faces and facade to be in expected places, and uplighting reverses that. It’s dramatic, but may not show either "in the best light" — so to speak.

We're presently involved with an exquisite small 1848 granite facade, now totally in the dark, facing Rte. 9, that we are hoping to light from up on a not too distant utility pole.

The lighting effects are quite nice by highlighting architectural features of the facade. Does your community participate in that or have incentives? Thank you for any information you may have.
